I feel like I could go on this really long rant about how Marvel/Disney thinks that the actors who play the characters we love are easily replaceable.
I don’t give a shit that it worked for James Bond. I’ve never seen a Bond movie. That’s awesome that they’ve been able to keep it alive by switching people out, kudos. That doesn’t mean it’ll work for other movies/roles. I HATED when Jodie Foster was replaced in “Hannibal.” It was nothing against Julianne Moore. It was just the fact I had a previous connection with the character. I was use to her being portrayed by someone else.
These movies aren’t daily soaps where a character might be replaced numerous times and no one really cares. We enjoy these characters because of the people who play them. Do we really think Iron Man would’ve been as big if Tom Cruise had landed the role? Seriously? I mean, I can’t even think about that in a serious tone. And guess what? If Iron Man had failed, we wouldn’t have Avengers. We wouldn’t have Captain America. We sure as hell wouldn’t have Phase 2 and Phase 3.
Do I think everyone on the cast should make $50 Million? No. That’s just not reasonable and would be a financial nightmare for the studios. Do I think $200,000 and $500,000 are too fucking low? Yes I do. I don’t know what the right number is for Chris Evan or Hemsworth. I don’t have the answers obviously but for Marvel to think everyone would just shrug and be OK with some new random actor taking over a role that’s already been established, and is still pretty new, is just annoying and pissing me off.
This isn’t 10 years later like Spider-Man. These are “bang bang” movies, one right after another for the most part.
I have no fucking clue where this post is going or what I’m even trying to get across, apart from rage.
But Marvel, DON’T FUCK IT UP.
Also, I’ll be over here breathing into a paper bag during these Marvel/Actor negotiations.
